To My Grown-Up Daughters

My hands were busy through the day
I didn't have much time to play
the little games you both asked me to.
I didn't have much time for both of you.
I'd wash your clothes, I’d sew and cook,
and when one asked me, "teach me how,"
I’d say "Later, daughter, I’m busy now."
I’d tuck both you in all safe at night
then tiptoe softly to the door…
I wish I’d stayed a minute more.
For life is short, the years rush past,
a little girls - they grow up fast.
No longer are they at your side,
their precious secrets to confide.
The picture books are put away,
there are no longer games to play-
no good-night kisses, no prayers to hear…
that all belongs to yesteryears.
My hands, once busy, now are stilled.
The days are long, sometimes hard to fill.
I wish I could go back and do
the little things they asked me to.

The author whoever she is, expresses what many mothers feel about their daughters.

I have two grown-up daughters myself, and this poem expresses my heart's cry to them. If only we could know before hand how short those precious early years really are. Not just for them, but for us. If only we could turn back the clock, stop time to play that game or color with them. However, as God would have it, we cannot turn back the clock, but we can make lots of new memories with our children and our grandchildren, no matter what their age. With God's help, its never to late to start making these new memories.

Today I have made many new memories with my daughters, and my grandchildren as well. Its been lot's of fun doing it. With my grandchildren I color more now then I ever did with my girls. And you know what? I love to take the time to color now, I find it very relaxing. They tired of it sooner then I do. I also do jigsaw puzzles with them. God is so faithful to help us mend all our broken relationships when we let Him. With my girls, I taken trips. Gone to the movies with them. Go out to lunch etc... Really I loved to do more, but alas they are now to busy to do much with dear old Mom. Life goes on, but I guess that's what grandchildren are for! :-)

Do you need to turn back the clock with your children?

Ask God to help you do it. I promise you,
He will help you take the first, of many new steps with them.

The last part of this poem really does not fit me yet, my hands are not still. My hands are very busy with my work and ministry. Mayim Hayim Ministries is bring the Good News of Messiah to the nations of the world, and this takes time. I try working hard at putting up articles that uplift people. Articles with a good message, in a very pretty setting. I pray this page has blessed you, and if it has, please pass it on to your friends.
